Do we really pay attention to the words of Christ, or do we just hear what we want to hear from Him?

We hear what we want to hear, especially when it comes to what Jesus meant when He said, "You must be Born Again."

Here's a couple of examples of what I'm talking about;

Popular song "Born Again" by the Newsboys - Lyrics;
I found myself looking into the mirror

Knew I wasn't who I wanted to be

I was living life the way wanted

But my eyes reminded me I'm not free

Believed a lie so everything that I know

Says I gotta go, tired of going solo

But I'm never gonna go there again

This is what it is, this is who I am

This is where I finally take my stand

I didn't wanna fall but I don't have to crawl

I met the one with two scarred hands

Giving Him the best of

Everything that's left of

The life inside this man

I've been born again

I see ya walking like you're living in fear

Having trouble even looking at me

Wishing they would give you more than words

Sick of people telling how it should be

What'd ya download? Where'd ya get info?

You saw that I'm sure, now you're in the in though

Gonna tell you what I believe

This is what it is, this is who I am

This is where I finally take my stand

I didn't wanna fall but I don't have to crawl

I met the one with two scarred hands

Giving Him the best of

Everything that's left of

The life inside this man

I've been born again

We are the ones they call by name (Born Agains)

I'm never gonna look back

Let go, let go, the guilt, the shame

Said, I'm never gonna look back

This is who I am

This is what it is, this is who I am

This is where I finally take my stand

I didn't wanna fall but I don't have to crawl

I met the one with two scarred hands

Giving Him the best of

Everything that's left of

The life inside this man

I've been born again

The interpretation the Newsboys have about being "Born Again" is giving God everything you are... In other words Carrie Underwood was "Born Again" when she told Jesus to "Take the wheel"...

2. Popular song "Born Again" by Third Day - Lyrics;

Today I found myself
After searching all these years
And the man that I saw, he wasn't at all who I thought he'd be
I was lost when you found me here
And I was broken beyond repair
Then you came along and you sang your song over me

It feels like I'm born again
It feels like I'm living
For the very first time
For the very first time
In my life

Make a promise to me now
Reassure my heart somehow
That the love that I feel is so much more real than anything.
I've a feeling in my soul
And I pray that I'm not wrong
That the life I have now, it is only the beginning

It feels like I'm born again
It feels like I'm living
For the very first time
For the very first time
It feels like I'm breathing
It feels like I'm moving
For the very first time
For the very first time

"I've a feeling in my soul, and I pray that I'm not wrong"... Is that what Jesus told Nicodemus??? Unless you have a feeling in your soul, (that you're not really sure of) you can't see the kingdom of God...

The 2nd Golden Rule; The Spirit does for us what God's Word says...

John 12:49-50
John 14:10-11
Our voices may be many but God speaks with one voice; Deut 6:4

God is "ONE"... and what the Father said, the Son said and did, and what the Son says, the Spirit says and does. And, since Jesus is the "Word" of God, then: The Spirit does for us what God's Word says...

Examples of differing opinions in the early church;

Apollos...
Priscilla and Aquila...
Achaian Believers...
Paul...
There were divisions in the early church; 1Corinthians 1:12

Though the Word is clear many times it's twisted to conform to the interpretation we want rather then what the author intended; 1Corinthians 15:1-4

Paul's message was clear and simply to the Corinthians;

Christ died for our sins according to scripture
He was buried
He was raised on the 3rd day, according to scripture
But, because some want the meaning of "Born Again" to match their interpretation, they twist Paul's meaning to mean something else;

We die to our sins (we die to our physical body of desires)
Our physical body is buried in baptism (water and spirit)
We are raised or "Born Again" from a spiritual baptism
This is true for many other passages when it comes to the meaning of "Receiving the Spirit" and being "Born Again";

John 7:39
John 20:22
Acts 8:39-40
We've covered what being "Born from Above" isn't...

It isn't Receiving the Spirit
It isn't being Baptized by the Spirit
It isn't the Gift of the Holy Spirit...
So what is being "Born from Above"? We'll get to the answer in the next episode.
