With everything we hear in the world today about religion, faith, and spirituality, it is difficult not to get totally confused by all the different messages. Who is right? Who should I listen to? How can I be sure I’m that what I’m doing in my life as a believer in Christ is right?

In the 1st century, the believers in Thyatira asked they same questions about their walk with Christ as we do today. In Revelation [2:18]-29, Christ warns believers about false teachers, and encourages believers to hold on to 4 important aspects of their faith.

Rev 2:18-29

Christ presents Himself to the believers in Thyatira this way because;

  1. They tolerate false teaching…
  2. They lack repentance…

The believers in Thyatira, like us, have some things working against them…

  1. Jezebel… a prophetess
  2. And their tolerance of Jezebel…

The confrontation between Elijah and Jezebel… (1Kings 18)

The Jezebel in the church at Thyatira had ways to silence her opposition…

  1. She called herself a prophetess… authority silences opposition…
  1. She had followers who repeated her false doctrine… repeat a lie until it becomes the accepted truth…
  1. She seduces others… to seduce is to cause to roam or go astray…

Paul had to deal with the same thing with the church in Corinth, (2 Cor 11:3-4). False doctrine is more dangerous to believers than persecution, because we can identify the evil in those who are against Christ, but we are seduced by false teachers and their doctrines.

So what are we supposed to do? We are encouraged to do the same thing Christ told the believers in Thyatria to do –“Hold fast what you have until I come.”

What were the believers in Thyatria doing? Christ said He knew their “works, love, faith, service, and patient endurance.” Keep doing that…

As we read, Paul told the Corinthians they had…

  1. A sincere and pure devotion to Christ;Love
  2. Belief in Jesus; Faith
  3. Acceptance of the Spirit of Jesus; the spirit of Jesus is to serve others before yourself… Service
  4. Acceptance of the Gospel; Patiently waiting for our salvation

Christ tells believers not to tolerate it when someone tries to convince them of a different Gospel, and to “Hold Fast” to the truth of the Gospel they received.

Paul said the believers in Corinth should “Hold Fast” to the same thing;

  1. Our Love for Jesus
  2. Our Faith in Jesus
  3. That we follow only Jesus
  4. Our hope in the Gospel

Christ promises all believers that if they hold fast to this He will give us “The Morning Star“… (Rev 22:16)

Following Jesus Made Easy”… Love Jesusbelieve Himfollow Him (His example of serving others)… and accept no other Gospel
