In our last podcast we saw Martha as a representation of organized religious institutions that pass themselves off as churches.

1. They Welcome Christ in; Like Martha
2. They Serve Others; Like Martha
3. They have Faith; Like Martha

But it results in;

1. Complaining to God; Like Martha
2. Feeling Left Alone; Like Martha
3. Tired & Burned Out; Like Martha

Why? Because we’re human… Flesh & blood…  Remember when Jesus prayed before He was arrested… Matthew 26:36-41

The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak…

Remember the story of David being chosen to be king of Israel by Samuel? And when David slew Goliath…

So how can we be more like Mary and embrace our blameless relationship rather than what appears to be the acceptable way to be involved with God? John 11:27

Where did Mary get this Love? It all comes down to Displays of Piety – displays of worship, displays of sacrifice, displays of serving, displays of salvation… But it’s always been this way… Jesus faced it in Israel… Matt 23:1-12

A familial relationship is one of Love and Freedom not servitude and control…* Christ is accessible… With the disciples…* Christ is accepting… Love* Christ is to be followed… Paul told the Corinthians, “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” 1Cor 11:1

We are a family not an organization… Or an institution…

Luke 8:19-21 John 19:26-27

Why don’t we act like a family? Because families are messy… That’s why God’s Love is necessary… Because real life is messy…Religion tries to sanitize life… But life isn’t sanitary… Life can get ugly… It can hurt… it can take us down…

Religion tries to hide the reality of life behind a curtain of pretense… Behind a show of piety… Behind a display of religious faith… Look at me, I’m holy, I’m spiritual, I’m perfect…

But when it comes to living our messy lives and finding peace, contentment, faith, hope, love, understanding, and confidence, religion is useless… It’s a facade… A display… There is something missing in the theology and rituals… There is something misguided in the liturgy and worship… There is a connection that is broken between us and the life of the Spirit which Christ sacrificed Himself to give us…

What have we left behind of our faith?

God’s Love… Our Father’s Love… The Love that is found in a family… God is Love… The fruit of the Spirit is Love… Greater Love has no man than this, that one would lay down his life for another…

The church is a Family… It’s not an organization or an institution…

As believers we are given the Spirit of God to use it… God is Love, and so also the Spirit of God is Love… If the Spirit of God is in us, then God’s Love is in us…

We were created for God’s Love… We were saved by God’s love to be a depository of God’s Love… But we weren’t meant to be a a warehouse for His Love, we are meant to be a distribution center of His Love…

God through Christ encourages us to use The Love we receive through the Spirit, in our messy lives, as we respond to one another as brothers and sisters… As members of the same family… The family of God and our brother Jesus Christ…

Life is Messy, but God’s Love Understands Our Messy Lives…

The church, in this world, isn’t my home because my home is where my Father is… When I say church I’m speaking of the physical church, not the spiritual church, the body of Christ… Just because a building has the name church on it that doesn’t mean God is inside…

The Father is where the Spirit of His Son (Jesus Christ) is… And the Spirit of Jesus is with His brothers and sisters… And His brothers and sisters are abiding in His word… And those who hear and abide in His Word are living in the family of God…

To hear and abide in the Word of Christ is to live in love… The love that is found in God’s family…

My home is in God’s family.

As Paul told the Philippians, “Our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there.” Philp 3:17-20

Our church is in heaven and from heaven. Our church is in our Father’s home, where all His children live, through the grace of Jesus Christ…
